We have two male Alpacas on the farm; Elvis and Ernie
Alpaca Facts:
- A male alpaca is called a Macho! And a female alpaca is called a Hembra!
- Baby alpacas are called Cria, but once they are a year old they are called Tui!
- A group of Alpacas is called a herd
- Alpacas can live up to 25 years
- Alpacas are very clean! They love to clean their fur and teeth
- Most baby alpacas are born in the morning
- Alpaca pregnancies last 11-12 months
- Alpacas are social animals and love living with friends!
- Alpacas are smaller than llamas
- Alpacas come from South America but they are happy to live anywhere with yummy food
- Alpacas make lots of sounds, including humming, snorting and grumbling to communicate
- Alpacas are part of the camelid family which includes Llamas and Camels
- Alpaca fur can be used to make soft wool for cozy scarves and jumpers
- Every alpaca on earth belongs to a human because they are domesticated
